Crosstown Core Value: Compelling Mission
Knowing God’s compassion and mercy in our own lives, we participate in God’s mission of healing love. This takes place in a multitude of ways. We live in partnership as we share our building with Verbo en Accion (Word in Action)–a Spanish-speaking congregation. Crosstown has local friendships in which we seek to be a blessing to our community. These relationship include: Lake Nokomis Community School, Nokomis East Neighborhood Association, Benefiting Bossen Initiative, and the Cub Scouts. On a global level, Crosstown is engaged in support of Jesus’ mission in the Dominican Republic, France, Greece, Japan, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and South Sudan as well as the local, national, and international ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church. “Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21
In January 2011, Crosstown hired Polly Inestroza as Director of Youth Ministries. Along with Polly, came her husband Jovanny, hailing from Honduras. The vision of this duo has drawn Crosstown into a partnership with Jovanny’s home church. In 2014, a group from Crosstown made the first (of many to come) trip to Honduras to assist in some building projects, to connect with our brothers and sisters and provide some entertainment (like puppet shows!). For VBS in 2015, the children were encouraged to bring in donations each night as an offering. These donations were used to buy Bibles for children in Honduras. Whether you get connected to missions at Crosstown, we hope you’ll join us in praying for our friends in Honduras that don’t enjoy life’s luxuries the way that many of us in the Twin Cities do.
Crosstown has a heart for the disadvantaged around the world. Crosstown families sponsor over 40 children through Covenant Kids Congo in the Equateur province of Congo and we run to raise money with Team World Vision for clean water projects. It’s important to know that “missions” the way we understand it starts here in the Nokomis neighborhood of South Minneapolis, but our reach extends from there. Crosstown supports missionaries in 12 countries around the world from Minnesota to Sudan to Japan, and between all of those places. Missionaries we support are with The Evangelical Covenant Church, Merge Ministries, and Youth With A Mission (YWAM).
Here in South Minneapolis, our gym serves as host to many NENA (Nokomis East Neighborhood Association) meetings, as well as events for the neighborhood Lake Nokomis Community School (Wenonah and Keewaydin) and their PTA.
Crosstown has the great privilege to partner with and share this church building with Verbo en Accion Iglesia del Pacto (“Word in Action Covenant Church”). Verbo is a Spanish-speaking congregation led by Pastor Juan Ovando and his wife Maria.
